It’s
been available in the UK for exactly a year, and Fiat’s
two cylinder 500 TwinAir continues to collect awards. As
a power unit, the 0.9-litre TwinAir is the current
International Engine of the Year, but this latest,
albeit niche, award – the 2011 GreenFleet Awards City
Car Manufacturer of the Year – highlights the car’s,
environmental credentials and low fuel economy.
						Launched as an engine
option in the UK last October, it was then introduced as
part of the 500 model line-up in its own right in June
this year. The TwinAir range aims to project a sporty
and assertive appearance, with black alloy wheels,
burnished metal effects on dashboard and front and rear
mouldings, spoiler, chrome exhaust pipe and sports
						seats.
						But it’s not all about
mild cosmetic enhancements: the TwinAir engine achieves
0-62mph acceleration in 11 seconds, while maximum speed
is 108 mph. And it has low CO2 emissions of just 95
g/km, along with 68.9 mpg fuel economy (combined cycle).
						"Although a closely
fought category again this year, the Fiat 500 TwinAir,
with its low consumption, two-cylinder, clean petrol
engine, was the resounding choice for the City Car
Manufacturer of the Year Award,” says Colin Boyton,
GreenFleet Marketing Manager. “Even though it is
already an extremely popular choice out there, I know we
will be seeing many more take to the roads over the next
year, as businesses look for a maximum return on their
fleet investment. Well done Fiat, worthy winners.”
						The Fiat 500 TwinAir
range starts at £11,600 on the road in the UK for the
0.9 TwinAir, rising to £15,500 on the road for the
						convertible 500C TwinAir Lounge.
