Fiat continued to shed
sales in the UK, during July they were down more than a quarter,
Alfa Romeo however went the other way, its sales bounced
more than a third for the month. In total 131,634 new
cars were sold in the UK last month according to data
released by industry body SMMT, a decline of 3.53
percent on the same month last year. New car
registrations have fallen consecutively over the past 13
months.
The Fiat brand continues to find little favour with UK
consumers and 2,639 registrations last month compared to
3,576 during the same month last year adds up to a fall
of 26.20 percent. As a result Fiat's market share for July
slips from 2.62 percent (2010) to just 2.00 percent
(2011). By comparison last year the Fiat brand's UK
sales were up 3.96 percent compared to July 2009,
although this was half the overall market's rise.
While Fiat continues to fade, Alfa Romeo is going the
other way driven on as ever by the new Giulietta, and 694 cars sold
in July compared to 515 during the same month a year ago
adds up to a rise of 34.76 percent. Alfa Romeo's market
share for the month of July is also up from 0.38 percent (2011) to
0.53 percent (2011). Last July Alfa Romeo's sales had
fallen a fifth compared to July 2009 so last month's
performance more than compensated for that slump.
The Fiat Group's two niche performance brands in the UK also had a poor
month, Abarth sold 86 cars in July and when compared to
124 shifted during the same month last year that's a decline of
almost one-third (-30.65 percent). As a result Abarth's
UK market share for
July slips from 0.09 percent (2010) to 0.07 percent
(2011). Maserati meanwhile sold 44 cars in July which
was down 27.87 percent on the same month last year when
it shifted 61 units, the Trident's UK market share stood
at 0.03 percent last month.
The remaining Chrysler Group brands in the UK had a
mixed month, Chrysler sold 53 cars, down 22.06 percent
year-on-year, while Jeep posted sales of 140 units which
was double this month last year (+97.18 percent) and gave
it a market share of 0.11 percent for the month just
gone.
After the first seven months of the year 1,245,108 new
cars have been sold in the UK, down 6.73 percent on the
same month last year. The Fiat brand continues to be one
of the market's biggest volume losers and 25,765 units
for the year-to-date compared to 33,448 during the same
month a year ago adds up to a fall of almost eight
thousand units and 22.97 percent. Fiat's year-to-date
market share drops from 2.69 percent (2010) to 2.22
percent (2011).
Alfa Romeo is on 7,182 units for the year-to-date and
compared to 4,351 during the same period last year that
is a jump of 65.07 percent. As a result Alfa Romeo's
market share for the year-to-date jumps from 0.35
percent (2010) to 0.62 percent (2011).
Abarth meanwhile is on 780 units for the year-to-date,
79 units and 9.20 percent down on the same period last
year. The Scorpion's year-to-date market share remains
unchanged on 0.07 percent. Maserati is on 257 cars for
the year-to-date, down 32 units and 13.76 percent on the
same period last year.
The Chrysler brand has seen its sales more than halve
(-57.79 percent) for the year-to-date from 867 units (2010) to
366 (2011). Its market share correspondingly falls from
0.07 to 0.03 percent for the periods. The Jeep brand is
however pulling its fallen picture round and 1,187 sales for the
year-to-date is almost flat on the same period last year (-1.00
percent).
