Lamborghini Singapore has
celebrated its tenth anniversary as the official
importer for the South East Asian island republic with a
special edition of the Gallardo LP550-2 Balboni Edition,
limited to just ten numbered units and with a number of
						individual touches.
						The ten special series
sports cars, which are individually numbered, were
delivered to their new owners during a special event and
dinner held at the upscale Mandarin Oriental Hotel in
Singapore. The sports cars came in the option of either
white or black and feature a distinctive split red body
side stripe, one of each style was shown in a temporary
						display outside the luxury hotel.
						The Gallardo Singapore
Edition was the idea of Melvin Goh, the Managing
Director of Lamborghini Singapore, who took his idea for
an officially-sanctioned special series to celebrate ten
years of the importer in the republic (2001-2011) to the
factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese last summer. Lamborghini
Singapore has been achieving great sales success while
the Italian sports car maker as a whole has seen its
sales crash across most of the world following the
effects of the global financial crisis. Reportedly more
than 50 orders have already been placed in Singapore for
						the next-generation Murciélago, the advanced,
V12-engined LP700-4 which will debut at next month's
						Geneva Motor Show.
						As well as the side
stripes, each example of the the Gallardo Singapore
Edition has an individually-numbered plaque inside the
cockpit and a special Merlion logo attached to the lower
rear three-quarter panel section. Merlion is the mascot
of Singapore, a fictitious creature with the head of a
lion and the body of a fish.
						The specially
commissioned Gallardo Singapore Edition is based on the
Gallardo LP550-2 Balboni Edition, the two wheel drive
version named after the Raging Bull brand's legendary
test driver Valentino Balboni. Under the skin the
mechanicals of the mid engined sports car remain
unchanged, that means the 5.2-litre V10 engine turns out
maximum power of 550 PS at 8,000 rpm and peak torque of
						40 Nm at 6,500 rpm. Top speed is 320 km/h while 0-100
km/h is achieved in 3.9 seconds. The dimensions are:
length (4,386 mm), width (1,900 mm), height (1,165 mm)
						and wheelbase (2,560 mm).
						Lamborghini Singapore
is also donating $20,000 from the sale of each example
of the Gallardo Singapore Edition to the The Straits
Times School Pocket Money Fund fund which will add up to
a total of $200,000 to assist Singapore's less well off
students. The importer plans further initiatives to
raise money for community assistance programmes during
						its 10th anniversary year.
