One of
the rarest open topped Maseratis, the Ghibli SS Spyder will
be going under hammer in the first major auction of
2012. The Ghibli SS Spyder will be auctioned at
Scottsdale in Arizona on 20 and 21 January by Gooding &
						Co.One of only
11 European market versions created, the iconic 1971 Ghibli SS
Spyder by Ghia presented in Scottsdale is believed to be
						the finest example in existence.
						Powered by a 4.9 litre
330 bhp V8 engine, the Ghibli SS Spyder had a top speed
of 280 km/h. While the Ghibli coupé, with a production
run of 1,280 units, was one of Maserati’s most
successful coupés, the Spyder version was produced in
very limited numbers and this combination success and
limited numbers has made it one of the most sort-after
						classic Maseratis.
						The car that is being
auctioned is historically documented from new and
restored from the ‘ground up’ by leading Italian
specialists. This fabulous "Verde Gemma" sports car with
saddle interior is equipped with the most desirable
European factory specifications, featuring a manual
gearbox, hard top, Borrani wire wheels and fitted
luggage. Its auction estimate is US$700,000 -
						US$900,000.
