Italian
coachbuilder F&M has officially presented details and
more images of its new contemporary supercar project
which it sneak previewed earlier this month under the
"Mugello" name. To be produced by Mazzanti Automobili
next year this 3.5-litre flat-12 mid-engined car will be
called the Evantra.
Following on from its first model, the Antas, the new
name also comes from the ancient Etruscan language.
Evantra for the Etruscans was the goddess of
immortality.
F&M hopes to find enough buyers to produce the Evantra
in a limited series and is targeting restricting
production output to five examples per year, of which
the first has already been commissioned and will be
presented in the middle of next year.
F&M is promising "extreme
personalisation" options for future owners, with the
customisation supervised by the car's creator, Mr. Luca
Mazzanti in the confines of the new atelier "Mazzanti
Automobili" located in Pontedera.
The design of the Evantra was created by Luca Mazzanti
together with Zsolt Tarnok, F&M's chief designer. F&M
says that it has tried to capture "the perfect
equilibrium of classic and modern sports cars. The
smooth surfaces, the classically shaped fenderlines come
from the traditional classic cars which influenced most
the past creations of F&M. For the styling of the
Evantra a modern and a bit more aggressive appearance
was desired, so in the details more modern solutions
were used. Such parts are the shape of the lights, with
the modern LED lights, and the precise and neat outlines
and connections of the air inlets and outlets around the
car. These virtually different concepts have been merged
together in harmony to create this unique supercar, F&M
Evantra."
The 4.3 m long body is
that of a mid-engined 2-seater coupé. The Evantra has a
distinctive front spoiler design with multiple angled
cutout sections, a generic supercar side on profile with
large front brake cooling exits and even larger engine
cooling intakes that rake sharply into the doors in an
opposed manner and unusual rear hinged doors, while at
the rear a diffuser is fitted. There are also daytime
LED running lights at the front and more LEDs are used
at the rear. The bodywork will come in two versions, the
first, called "Pro-Body", will be made out of composite
materials, while the second, called "One-Body", is an
entirely hand crafted, all aluminim body that can be
personalised by the client. With this option the client
can undertake a project that will create a distinctive
single vehicle, virtually building a one-off.
The relatively lightweight steel chassis (it is 1,200kg
when clothed with the "Pro Body" option) offers a low
centre of gravity thanks to the sourcing of a 3.5-litre
flat-12 engine which F&M claims will produce 403 hp when
normally aspirated or 603 hp when benefitting from an
optional twin-turbo set-up. "The balance of the car
makes it absolutely at home on any racetrack or on a
remote mountain road," reckons F&M.
