Neste Oil and Iveco have joined forces for the
11th edition of Challenge Bibendum, which runs in Berlin May until tomorrow.
Challenge Bibendum is an annually held international event gathering mobility
experts from around the world to explore, promote, and test solutions and
technologies for tomorrow's mobility. The focus of the event is especially on
the sustainability and environmental aspects of future road mobility. All Iveco's diesel-electric hybrid and diesel powered vehicles at the event are
fueled by Neste Oil's premium quality NExBTL renewable diesel.
"Traffic volumes are expected to triple by 2050
and the related emissions are increasing. It is of utmost importance that we do
what we can to minimize the negative effects of traffic: all of the various
solutions to combat this environmental challenge are needed. One of the
solutions, already available commercially, is Neste Oil's NExBTL renewable
diesel which has been proven to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% or even
more over the product's entire life cycle when compared to fossil diesel. Its
use also significantly cuts tailpipe emissions, which helps improve urban air
quality", explains Mr. Matti Lehmus, Executive Vice President, Oil Products and
Renewables, Neste Oil.
"NExBTL is a sulfur-, oxygen-, nitrogen- and
aromatics-free diesel fuel suitable to be used in all current diesel engines
without any engine modifications. It is developed in cooperation with car and
engine manufactures to meet even their most stringent requirements. Based on its
technical qualities, NExBTL renewable diesel outperforms both 1st generation
biodiesels as well as conventional fossil diesel", Mr. Lehmus says.
Neste Oil's NExBTL renewable diesel is a
hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) produced by hydrotreating vegetable oils or
waste animal fats. As a hydrocarbon its chemical composition corresponds to that
of traditional diesel. Thanks to a high cetane number, it combusts efficiently,
keeping engines clean.
