Mysterious new Italian low volume car making hopeful,
Vygor, has revealed the first details of its project ten
days after announcing its existence: it is proposing to
build a GT-style lightweight SUV, dubbed Opera. The
company is promising to unveil the car at 10am this
morning.There
is little concrete information so far, however for an
SUV project an extreme lightweight - 1500kg - is
claimed, this being a self-built vehicle rather than
utilising re-skinned manufacturer SUV architecture such
as Maserati's new Kubang concept (Jeep Grand Cherokee)
shown in Frankfurt last month or another proposed GT off
roader this year, DeTomaso's Deauville (Cadillac SRX).
Vygor optimistically
claims that to achieve this very low weight it will use
a tubular chassis made from high strength steel with a
mix of composite parts. Reaching a 1500 kg weight for an
SUV project would be a difficult prospect even for a
major OEM and certainly within a cost structure that
would make this low-volume project viable.
The press release
claims engines developing in the range of 300-400 hp and
says the Opera will feature double wishbone suspension
and special shock absorbers. There are also the usual
stock platitudes to individual customisation.
"Opera is a unique
car," reads a press release issued by Vygor, which says
it comes from the town of Lucca in Tuscany, ahead of the
full announcement of the project today. "Thanks to
sophisticated technical solutions it offers the pleasure
of driving a Gran Turismo car, combined with the safety
of permanent 4 wheel drive and the comfort of high
ground clearance. Its exclusive characteristics are due
to a new tubular chassis made of high-strength steel,
double-triangle individual wheel suspension, with
special shock absorbers. Moreover the body is the result
of the latest techniques made of composites and steel,
so that its weight is slightly higher than 1500 Kg.
"Opera is unique:
every car will be rigorously customised," continues the
statement. "Our client will be guided in choosing design
and outfit of the car, its technical features, the
inside and finishing touches. The frame-suspension whole
proposed by Vygor allows different set-up, Opera could
be a wonderful off-road vehicle, attractive GT or a
multipurpose car. It can provide different ground
clearances, many calibration trims with cast rims from
18" to 22", and three different power steps from 300 to
over 400 HP. The maximum exclusivity of every Opera
continues in its inside, not only proposed to the client
in first choice full leather, but also designed by the
best designers and hand-assembled by the highest
manufacturing standards. Opera is so completely
customisable, our client are allowed to choose even the
most suitable instrumentation on the dashboard. Data
sheet, performance and prices will be available in a few
days."
