Zagato has celebrated a double podium
in recent weeks after the unique Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Testa Fissa Zagato came home
in third place on the Mille Miglia and its latest one-off concept, the Aston
Martin V12 Zagato, won the design award at the Concorso d'Eleganza Ville d'Este.
Scuderia Sports achieved 3rd,
4th and 7th place finishes at the 2011 Mille Miglia. The effort was the top team
result in the Italian regularity race and was supported by Hagerty Insurance,
H&H Auctions, LeMay Museum, Cisco and NetApp. Nine of the ten Scuderia Sports
entries in the Mille Miglia completed the race.
Scuderia Sports also had four
entries in the Ferrari Tribute and had the top American finisher in the race.
The historic one-off 1933 Alfa Romeo 6C Gran Sport 1500 Testa Fissa achieved 2nd
place OA at last year’s edition of
the Mille Miglia so meant a second consecutive result for the Zagato bodied car. The podium finish was
especially gratifying for the Milanese brand, which has initiated a partnership
with Scuderia Sports in the field of historic racing.
After the race the Alfa Romeo
6C 1500 TF Zagato returned to Zagato's headquarters in Milan where it is
currently being
displayed. The sports car was in fact a class winner for Scuderia Ferrari in the original 1934
Mille Miglia.
Scuderia Sports is an
international historic racing team established in 2009. For this year's Mille
Miglia the team brought together top competitors from Argentina, Italy, the
United States, Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom, and saw for the first time
the official participation of Zagato as a partner of the team. Andrea Zagato and
his staff welcomed the cars and participants on their way to Brescia, sharing
passion and enthusiasm for motor sports activities is a very important part of
the Zagato heritage.
Zagato wins the Design Concept
Award at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d’Este
At its world première the
distinctive new Aston Martin V12 Zagato won the Concours d’Eleganza Design Award
for concept cars and prototypes at the event held on the shores of Lake Como in
Italy. Introduced as a modern interpretation of one of the most the famous Aston
Martin and Zagato collaborations and on the 50th anniversary year of the DB4GT
Zagato, the V12 Zagato was shown for the first time at this prestigious
international event sparking much interest from visitors and potential
customers.
Dr. Andrea Zagato, the third
generation of Zagato family, said: “At Villa d’Este 2010 the Alfa Romeo TZ3
Corsa won the Design Award and I received the prize in the day I became fifty.
At Villa d’Este 2011 the Aston Martin V12 Zagato has won the same award, which
was given to Dr. Ulrich Bez – CEO of Aston Martin – so Zagato can celebrate the
second win in a row.
Like 50 years ago, when the
Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato was introduced as a racing car, today the V12 Zagato
has highlighted 50 years of collaboration between Aston Martin and the Milanese
atelier. "We wanted to do something that people did not expect after the big
success of the Aston DB7 Zagato (99 units in 2002) and DB American Roadster (99
units in 2003)," noted Zagato.
