Shortly after 9 o’clock this morning, in the pit lane at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit, Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi pulled the wraps off the STR6, the car with which Scuderia Toro Rosso will tackle the 2011 Formula 1 World Championship.

While the livery featuring the famous 'Red Bull' remains pretty much the same, underneath the paintwork, the new STR6, which once again uses Ferrari V8 power, is claimed to be different to its predecessor although visually it is a very conservative design with no obvious signs of any innovative features.

This year’s design thus appears mainly differ in its need to adapt to the changes in the technical regulations that come into force this year. In its press release this morning, Toro Rosso - somewhat surprisingly - only admit that it "is possibly less conservative than in 2010"; last year's STR5 design unfortunately not being one of its most memorable leaving the team comfortably last in the final constructors' points standings (13 points collected compared to 44 points for the eighth placed Sauber team which also used Ferrari V8 engines) amongst the nine established F1 outfits.

The design of the STR6 thus has to take into account the new requirements set out in the technical regulation changes, such as the banning of double diffusers, blown rear wings and adjustable front wings, to be replaced for 2011 with the arrival of adjustable rear wings and the return, after a one year break, of KERS.
