Imola's Enzo e Dino
Ferrari circuit yesterday hosted the third of this
season's Ferrari F1 Clienti days, which featured owners
taking their historic Formula 1 cars round the famous
track for free practice sessions, all organised by the
technical staff of the Ferrari Corse Clienti department.
On this special day, drivers involved in Ferrari’s
non-competitive programmes took turns on the Imola
track, receiving advice from sports car star Gimmi
Bruni, who is fresh from coming second in the LMGTE PRO
class in the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours last weekend,
alongside Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander in
their AF Corse-entered 458 Italia GT2. Bruni, whose
achievements also includes a stint in Formula 1, was
present yesterday as an instructor to help the owners
get an understanding of the track and of the telemetry
data.
There were nine historic Formula 1 cars on the track,
notably the F1-89 as driven by Nigel Mansell, the 1998
F300 which was the forty fifth car built by Scuderia
Ferrari to compete in F1 and with which Michael
Schumacher took seven wins, and also the F2001 that the
German drove to nine victories. Among more recent
examples was the F2007 with which the Scuderia won both
F1 world championship titles that year which was also
the last time it won drivers' championship trophy.
The participants in the F1 Clienti programmes will be
back in action alongside owners involved in the XX
programmes, in Shanghai, China, on 24 July, at the same
time as the second round of the Ferrari Challenge APAC.
