Dallara, the undisputed
standard setter for F3 cars globally, has presented the
first computer generated images of its new F312 which
will be used for the 2012-2015 seasons, and which aims
to follow in the path of its dominant predecessors.
The new FIA technical
regulation changes and a focus by Dallara on the
wind-tunnel development program resulted in a very
different and entirely new car. Technical details of the
car will be made available later this year.
The new FIA
regulations have upgraded the F3 monocoque to the same
side protection standard as the current breed of F1
cars. Together with other safety measures introduced the
new generation of F3 single-seater takes safety to a new
level, ever closer to current F1 cars.
Various upgrades will
extend the life of mechanical components. Much detail
work also went into increasing the stiffness of crucial
components such as the monocoque and the suspension.
There is a new raised nosed which has involved a new
from suspension/spring layout. Only one make and type of
gearbox/transmission per car manufacturer will be
allowed. For the F312 Hewland has been chosen which has
meant the car has been tailored to this transmission.
Many 'intelligent' new
regulations will aim to reduce the running costs of the
new generation of F3 cars which will run from 2012 to
2015. Delivery of new single-seater will start
in mid-December 2011, sub-assembly already got underway in
July.
