This coming weekend, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza will form the backdrop to the first
round of the Italian and European Ferrari Challenge
Trofeo Pirelli series, the opening event on the Corse
Clienti department’s racing calendar. The 2011
championship features several important new elements,
most significant of which is the debut of the new 458
Challenge car, alongside the F430 Challenge.

Also new is the race distance, which see the first leg
run for twenty five minutes and the second for thirty
five. With the introduction of the new car, the
classifications continue to be split into two
categories, the Trofeo Pirelli and the Coppa Shell, for
those drivers running the 458 Challenge, while there
will be just one classification for those competing in
the Trofeo Pirelli with the F430 Challenge. Otherwise,
the programme remains unchanged with Free Practice
sessions lasting sixty minutes prior to two qualifying
sessions of thirty minutes each, with the first deciding
the grid for Race 1 and the second for Race 2. As in the
past, if a car is crewed by two drivers, the points
scored by both drivers will be combined. In addition, a
point will be awarded to the driver who takes pole
position, or to both drivers in the case of a car with a
crew of two, as well as a point for fastest lap and a
point awarded to every driver on the grid in every race
						and class.

The first round gets underway on Friday with free
practice, while Saturday sees qualifying and the first
races, with Sunday entirely given over to racing. In
both the Italian and European series, competitors in the
Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell categories both race
						together, but with separate classifications.
