Reiter Engineering has
unveiled its new and much evolved 2011 GT3 category
contender, now based on the Gallardo LP560-4, which the
German concern hopes will follow in the footsteps of the
highly successful outgoing racer.
Reiter's current Gallardo
GT3 has proved to be a winner across the world in recent
years taking outright honours in sports car
championships in countries as far flung as Australia,
Macau and Brazil. A Gallardo GT3 racer has also just
made its way to the U.S. where a brand new team plans up
update it and run in it the GT2 class of the American Le
Mans Series this year.
The new GT3 model,
dubbed the Gallardo LP600+, due to its increase in
horsepower, is an evolutionary design, making
improvements to the outgoing model across the board,
including a revised engine, new front aerodynamics and a
new engine hood as well as a new exhaust which now exits
through two high-level, trapeziod-shaped tail-pipes,
while the paddle-shift transmission features new gear
ratios.
The 5,211cc 90-degree
V10 dry-sump-lubricated engine has been revised and
features a new fully-programmable electronics management
system, EFI Euro 12, with the standard unit's 560 CV
raised to in excess of 600 CV. The engine also has a new
air intake system, with sharp slots cut through out of
the new aerodynamic-profiled engine hood. The
cooling system has been improved with the three water
radiators being now feeding into revised air exit ducts
forward of front wheels to improve cooling efficiency
while the gearbox oil cooling comes through heat
exchanger system.
Significant improvements have been made to frontal
aerodynamics with a new splitter with integral double
under floor diffusers that
covers the complete frontal under floor area. Under the
body there is a flat floor culminating in a rear
diffuser, while a large racing wing perches on the rear
panel.
The car's double-wishbone suspension all round with
anti-roll bar, anti-dive and anti squat is once again
leveraged off its bigger sister, the Reiter-developed
Murciélago R-GT, while there is a new AP Racing braking
system. The LP600+ also features ABS which is permitted
in the FIA GT3 class. Squeezed into the wheel arches are
11x18- and 12.5x18-inch magnesium wheels at the front
and rear respectively. Tyres are GT3 regulation
300/650/18 at the front and 310/710/18 at the rear.
Inside the
stripped-out cockpit there is a new switch panel, the
door panels are in carbon-fibre, the door windows are
made out of Makrolon polycarbonate, and a racing style
data logger replaces the road car's instrument panel.
The whole car will weigh in at 1190 kg.
