Fiat
Brazil replaced the B-segment Palio hatchback last
November with an all-new model after a decade and a half
long production run; however the 'Weekend' (estate)
version of the outgoing model is being retained and to
freshen it up it gets an all round upgrade.
Fiat Automóveis is trying
to position the Palio Weekend versions for the
requirements of different consumers. The Attractive and
Trekking levels focus on interior space, trunk space,
practicality and family characteristics, while the
Adventure version, in addition to meeting these
requirements, incorporates sturdiness, a sporty feel and
adventure aspects. It is higher from the ground, has a
heavy-duty suspension, is shod with mixed use tyres,
gives the appearance of robustness and strength, and
finally, attributes that aim to guarantee light off road
fun.
It is by keeping to
this broad concept that the facelifted Palio Weekend has
now received a series of new additions. With a range
that includes four versions (Attractive, Trekking,
Adventure and Adventure Dualogic) and three engine
options: Fire 1.4 Flex (85 hp w/gasoline and 86 hp
w/ethanol), E-torQ 1.6 16V (115 hp w/gasoline and 117 hp
w/ethanol), and the most powerful, the E-Torq 1.8 16V
(130 hp w/gasoline and 132 hp w/ethanol), the range has
received significant external and internal visual
changes.
The new front end
design is also part of a regular change of "family"
looks by Fiat Brazil, and its platform sisters, the
Strada and last-generation Siena, have also got a
matching makeover. With a more modern and elegant as
well as more robust look in the case of the Palio
Adventure, that comes matched with new alloy wheels
which can optionally come in 16 inch rims shod with
tyres for urban use. The interior also gets some changes
to offers better comfort and functionality. Improvements
include changes to the central dashboard, which gets new
air vents, some electronic equipment improvements, and
revised storage compartments on the doors that now
feature a bottle-holder, sunglasses and magazine
compartment, new steering wheel, new foot rest for the
driver and new key remote control for the Trekking and
Adventure versions.
Each version of the
Palio Weekend gets a different finish for the now
revised instruments panel, all with the following
equipment: speedometer, rev counter, temperature gauge,
digital display that combines clock, trip computer, My
Car Fiat, and fuel gauge.
The facelifted Palio
Weekend also receives upgrades to the seats and doors
with the adoption of new fabrics and an improvement to
the functionality of the height and longitudinal
adjustment.
The new three-spoke
steering wheel features controls for the sound system
and butterfly switches to shift gears when the version
comes equipped with the Dualogic transmission. The
revised model can also be equipped with CD/MP3 Radio or
Radio CD/MP3-Connect sound system with USB port and
Bluetooth connection to the phone. Another detail on the
restyled Palio Weekend line is the presence as standard
of the HSD (High Safety Drive) pack which comprises of
front air bags and ABS brakes with EBD across all
versions.
In addition to HSD,
the facelifted Palio Weekend also offers content that
emphasises comfort, convenience and safety. The
Attractive version, which features the Fire 1.4 engine,
has the door handles, side mirrors, bumpers, side and
rear skirts and rear wing finished in the body colour of
the vehicle. Standard features include speed limit
alerts, scheduled maintenance, Trip Computer
(distance, average consumption, instant consumption,
range, average speed and travel time), internal command
to open the trunk lid and fuel tank, power steering and
follow-me-home lights. The list of options include
longitudinal roof bars, air-conditioning, rear power
windows with one touch and anticrush function, split
rear seat and steering wheel with radio control.
The Palio Weekend
Trekking version, unlike the Attractive version,
features the E.torQ 1.6 16V engine, longitudinal bars on
the roof, wheel arch protections, biparabolic headlights
with black backings and chromed frames, radiator grille
in black, plus door handles, outer sill of doors and
rear spoiler also in black, higher ride height
suspension and lighting of the trunk. Options include
air conditioning, switchblade key with remote control
for opening and closing doors, rear parking sensor,
split rear seat and steering wheel with radio controls.
With a unique look
that comes with the longitudinal bars in the roof having
an integrated brake light, deep headlights, side mirrors
with integrated indicator lights and a chromed grille,
the revised Palio Adventure has a decent equipment list
for the Brazilian market. It features, in addition to
standard items of the Trekking version, the E.torQ 1.8
16V engine, air-conditioning, Trip Computer B, compass
and longitudinal and transversal inclinometer, gray
finish on the dashboard centre, open doors and trunk
indicators, sump guard and a switchblade-style key with
remote control for opening and closing doors.
Among the options is
the Locker (limited slip differential), partial leather
covered seats, rear power windows with one touch and
anticrush functions, rear parking sensors, subwoofer,
remote controls for the radio mounted on the steering
wheel and steering wheel with butterfly gear switches
(for the Dualogic version).
