Fiat and
Alfa Romeo suffered a difficult April in Germany, down
14.8 and 26.3 percent respectively, while Lancia and
Jeep both enjoyed very strong sales surges against an
overall market which remained flat year-on-year.

In total 274,066 new cars were sold in Germany last
month which was 2.9 percent up on the same month last
year with the slightly positive performance reflecting
this market's trending over the opening period of this
						year.

The Fiat brand lost ground on its so far flat to
slightly negative start to the year (it was up 2.9
percent during the previous month, March), but 7,393
units in April represented a sharp contraction of 14.8
percent on the same period last year and that left it
with a 2.7 percent market share for the month.

Under pressure Alfa Romeo also struggled in April and
its sales were down 26.3 percent, dropping to 643 units
(although it represented a slightly better performance
than March which had its seen sales fall by one-third).
Alfa Romeo was amongst the German market's biggest
losers during April, only Daihatsu (-73.3 percent),
Mitsubishi (-31.6 percent) and Subaru (-28.7 percent),
						fared worse in year-on-year terms.
						Lancia however was up
438.7 percent to 334 units, the largest year-on-year
increase of any brand in Germany for the month just gone
(second placed Land Rover was up 91.3 percent) although
that performance by Lancia only equated to a market
share of just 0.1 percent. Chrysler Group added 602 cars
during April and although the data isn't broken down
between the brands, that is likely to be exclusively
vehicles from the Jeep brand. That performance was up
						52.8 percent year-on-year.

For the year-to-date a total of 1,047,702 new cars have
been sold in Germany, up 1.8 percent year-on-year. Fiat
has nudged into slightly negative territory for the
first four months of the year, down 4.9 percent to
25,320 units which gives it a 2.4 percent share of the
						market.

Alfa Romeo has lost a quarter of its sales year-on-year
over the first four months of 2012, its 2,925 units is a
fall of 24.9 percent and makes it the third worst
performer in Germany for the period behind Daihatsu
(-70.3 percent) and Honda (-31.6 percent).

As well as for last month, Lancia is also the market's
strongest performer for the January to April period in
year-on-year terms, up 221.2 percent to 1,320 units
although its market share rests on 0.1 percent. The next
best performers in year-on-year terms are Land Rover
(+90.9 percent) and Kia (+57.9 percent). Behind that
trio Chrysler Group is the fourth best performer, up
32.1 percent on the same period last year to 2,206 units
which will be essentially registrations drawn from the
						Jeep brand.
