09.07.2012 FIAT SEES ITS SALES FLAT WHILE ALFA ROMEO HEADS DOWN IN UK DURING JUNE

Alfa Romeo's troubles extend across Europe and there is no respite in the UK, its sales fell 36.44 percent year-on-year from 988 in June last year to 628 last month. That reduced Alfa Romeo's share of the UK market from 0.54 in June last year to 0.33 percent for the month just gone.

It was another mixed month for Fiat Group Automobiles in the UK during June, Fiat was almost flat (-1.33 percent) while Alfa Romeo continued to see its sales unravelling (-36.44 percent) against an overall market that was up very slightly (-3.49 percent).

In total 189,514 new cars were sold in the UK during June as opposed to 183,125 during the same period last year.

The Fiat brand added 4,678 sales in the UK in June and when compared to 4,741 during the same month a year ago it was an almost flat performance. Fiat's market share for the month edged down very slightly from 2.59 percent in June 2011 to 2.47 percent last month.

Fiat Group Automobiles' (FGA) niche brands, apart from Chrysler had little joy. Abarth was flat, down one unit to 103 cars in June to take a 0.05 percent share of all sales, Jeep was down 10.08 percent to 214 vehicles for a 0.11 percent share, although Chrysler bucked the trend, up 477.97 percent, the market's second best performance in year-on-year terms, albeit to 341 units. That gave Chrysler a 0.18 percent share of UK sales for the month just gone. Elsewhere the Fiat Group's Maserati brand saw its sales halve to 21 units.

For the first half of the year the UK has seen 1,057,680 cars sold, up 2.72 percent on the same six months last year. The Fiat brand has 25,485 sales for the first half of this year, up 10.20 percent on the first six months of 2011 when it shifted 23,126 cars and as a result its H1 share edges up from 2.25 percent last year to 2.41 percent this year.

Alfa Romeo is on 4,158 registrations for the first half of 2012 and when compared to 6,488 during the same period last year that is steep fall of 35.91 percent. As a result Alfa Romeo's H1 share of the UK market slips from 0.63 percent last year to 0.39 percent this year.

Abarth is on 607 units for the year-to-date which is down 87 units and 12.54 percent on the same period last year. The Scorpion's market share for the period is almost unchanged, down 0.01 percent to 0.06 percent.

FGA's U.S. brands are both up for H1 2012, Chrysler is on 1,606 units, up 413.10 percent when compared to the 313 cars it shifted during the same period last year which makes it the market's second best performer so far in 2012 in year-on-year terms. Jeep, meanwhile, has 1,181 registrations for the year-to-date and compared to 1,047 during the same six month period last year that is a rise of 12.80 percent. As a result Jeep's H1 market share edges up from 0.10 percent last year to 0.11 percent this year.

Finally, Maserati has 171 sales so far in 2012 and versus 213 during the opening half of last year that is a decline of 19.72 percent. Maserati has a 0.02 percent share of UK sales for the year-to-date.
