Fiat
Automóveis enjoyed a strong July for passenger car sales
in Brazil, its sales were up a third which also beat the
market, while its LCV sales were flat and slightly
underperformed the overall market. Fiat comfortably led
both of these market sectors in volume terms to retain
its outright leadership of the Brazilian market both the
month of July and also for the year so far.
In total 281,420 new passenger cars were sold in Brazil
last month and Fiat weighed in with 70,111 units, up
32.4 percent and seventeen thousand units year-on-year.
That left Fiat with clear daylight at the top of the
segment ahead of VW (67,406 units) and GM (49,116
units).
In month-on-month terms Fiat was up six and a half
thousand units and 10.4 percent on June which easily
outperformed the overall market's 2.0 percent rise for
the period as well as VW which was up 8.0 percent from
June to July.
For the year-to-date 1,559,092 new passenger cars have
been sold in Brazil, up 4.2 percent on the same period
last year. Fiat meanwhile has 357,804 sales for the
first seven months of the year, up just over fifteen
thousand units and 5.2 percent year-on-year. That also
keeps Fiat four thousand units ahead of VW (353,147
units YTD) which is up 5.5 percent while third placed GM
(293,537 units YTD) is a distant third and down 1.6
percent.
Meanwhile the Brazilian sector reserved for Light
Commercial Vehicles (LCV) was up in July by 6.9 percent,
although it enjoyed a much smaller bounce than the
passenger car segment. In total 69,804 units were sold
in July. Fiat sold 14,019 LCVs in Brazil last month
which was down four hundred units and 2.9 percent
year-on-year but outperformed the overall market and
allowed it to remain the clear segment leader. VW
however had a rosy month, its LCV sales were up 22.2
percent to 11,325 units.
In month-on-month terms the LCV sector was up 7.9
percent in July versus June. Fiat performed well under
this criteria, up a market beating 19.7 percent while VW
also turned in a very similar rise, up 20.6 percent.
Third placed GM was up 5.3 percent in July versus June.
For the year-to-date a total of 423,880 LCVs have been
sold in Brazil, down 1.4 percent on the same period last
year. Fiat is the clear LCV leader over the first seven
months of the year with 88,096 units and also follows
the market direction, it is down 3.8 percent. Second
placed VW is on 63,982 units for the year-to-date, and
again mirrors the market's flat trend, it is down 0.9
percent.
