Fiat
beat a slightly negative November for car sales in
Germany, up 6.4 percent year-on-year, while Alfa Romeo
and Lancia suffered major sales deteriorations and lost
a quarter and two-thirds of their volumes respectively.
In total 259,846 new cars were sold in Germany -
Europe's largest new car market - last month, and, in
keeping with the market's year long trend, that was down
very slightly, by 3.5 percent.
The Fiat brand sold 5,380 new cars in Germany last
month, up 6.4 percent year-on-year record a market share
of 2.1 percent. Alfa Romeo's fade on this market
continued last month as 472 cars sold represented a fall
of 27.6 percent and added up to a share of 0.2 percent.
Lancia is now reversing the gains it made thanks to the
third generation Ypsilon and it dropped by 62.9 percent
to 156 units last month. That left Lancia as the worst
performing brand in Germany in year-on-year terms during
November. The Chrysler Group brands aren't split up, but
a combined 588 cars can be mostly attributed to the Jeep
division and that was a rise of 32.7 percent and equated
to a market share of 0.2 percent.
For the year-to-date 2,878,173 new cars have been sold
in Germany, broadly in line with the same period of 2011
(-1.7 percent).
The Fiat brand has pulled back some of its on going
losses in Germany in recent months and is down 9.3
percent for the first eleven months of 2012, when
compared to the same period last year, with 68,336 units
sold. Fiat's year-to-date share stands at 2.4 percent.
Alfa Romeo has had a terrible year on a market where it
once had strong resonance with consumers and its 7,087
units for the year-to-date is down 28.1 percent on the
same period last year which makes it Germany's worst
performing brand in 2012 - if Daihatsu, which is being
wound down, is discounted from the data.
Despite a plunge in sales last month, Lancia is
Germany's second best performing brand for the
year-to-date, up 48.1 percent year-on-year (behind Land
Rover which is up 73.7 percent). However that only adds
up to 2,834 cars which gives it just a 0.1 percent share
of the market.
The Chrysler Group brands have a combined 6,552 sales so
far this year, up 36.2 percent on the same period last
year which adds up to a market share of 0.2 percent.
