Lot #5010.3 in the Barrett-Jackson sale at the Scottsdale Auctions next week is set to grab bidders' attentions as it is the final Lamborghini Diablo to roll off the productions lines in Sant'Agata Bolognese and boasts just 12 miles on the clock.

Serial #40 of just 40 Special Edition Diablo 6.0 Litre VTs that were built, this example carries the chassis plate: ZA9DC01A71LA12886. According to Barrett-Jackson, the sports car has just "12 original miles and [is] absolutely as-new throughout." The end-of-the-line Diablo comes from a significant West Coast of America collection.

Under the long, rakish engine cover is a muscular 550 hp rated V12 motor mated to a four-wheel-drive system which took the limited-edition Diablo VT from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and gave it a top speed of over 200 mph.

The Diablo began production in 1990 and close to three thousand units were built over the next decade. With the arrival of new company owner's, VW, and the Diablo's V12 engined successor, the Murciélago, hovering in the wings, production of this famous car faded out in 2001. Lamborghini however sent the model into the sunset with a special run of 40, individually numbered, 6.0L VT SE cars, the final run of a myriad of "special edition" versions that the sports car had spawned.

The Diablo VT SE now heading for the Barrett-Jackson sale is the last SE to be built. Carrying the serial number 40 of 40, it is the very end of the Diablo line. It has just 12 original miles on the clock and shows off a like-new condition throughout the car, right down to the original plastic covers on the seats. The auctioneer says that this example has lived its life in the large climate controlled collection of a west coast enthusiast.

The SEs were finished 20-each in two exclusive colours, Oro Elios which loosely translates to Sunrise Gold and Marrone Eklipsis which is Sunset Maroon. All boasted a number of special features including titanium threads in the carbon fiber weave for the body trim and rear spoiler as well as an Alpine premium DVD navigation audio system, an exclusive two tone all leather interior and titanium interior trim.
