Zagato
was on the top step of the Mille Miglia podium at the
weekend as Scuderia Sports won the classic car event
with its 1933 Alfa Romeo 6C Gran Sport 1500 Testa Fissa
Zagato driven by Claudio Scalise and Daniel Claramunt.
The Argentinean pilots performed extraordinarily well,
holding their first place all the way from Ferrara to
						the finish line in Brescia.
						This victory celebrates
the 85th Anniversary of the original Mille Miglia race
and the 30th of its re-edition. Furthermore it
represents the first great achievement for the Scuderia
Sports - Zagato joint partnership announced just last
						week.
						On stage at the Teatro
Grande in Brescia, Andrea Zagato had some very touching
words to say: in 1927 his grandfather Ugo Zagato was
involved with the Mille Miglia by bodying the legendary
pre-war Alfa Romeo Zagatos from Scuderia Ferrari. One
year later, he was at the top of the podium for the
first time: Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi won the
race with the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 SS Spider Zagato. The
Milanese coachbuilder and Alfa Romeo repeated this
victory in 1929 (Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Zagato), 1930
(Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Zagato) and 1933 (Alfa Romeo 8C
						2300 MM Zagato).
						85
years on, one of those extraordinary Zagato cars came
back to the highest step of the Mille Miglia podium
thanks to Scuderia Sports and its drivers. Sports
Zagato, the Scuderia Sports division dedicated to the
Milanese atelier, is already scouting Mille Miglia
Zagato cars eligible for 2013 editions.
						The
Mille Miglia weekend saw another event: the signature
between Swiss luxury watches and jewellery manufacturer
Chopard and Zagato for a long term partnership. The
first result of this collaboration will be a limited
edition watch launched at the Mille Miglia 2013.
