20.12.2003 MASERATI TROFEO LIGHT: THE TRIDENT RETURNS TO SPORTSCAR RACING |
|||||||||||||
The Maserati Trofeo Light is a development of the Trofeo Coupe used in Maserati's one-marque series, and is built by Maserati Corse, racing arm of the Maserati factory. It is aimed at customers who wish to race it in the GT class of the American Le Mans Series, Grand Am Series, ACO organised Le Mans 24 Hours and the N-GT class of the FIA GT series. It will be pitted against the hordes of Porsche GT3-RSR's and the Ferrari 360 Modena. The Trofeo Light makes extensive use of light-weight body panels to achieve a weight of 1155kg, down from the Trofeo's 1400kg. The 4.2 litre V8 engine is now rated at 430bhp. The first team to
confirm that they will use the Trofeo Light is Scuderia Ferrari of Washington
who will use the new car to defend their Grand American title next year. The
Trofeo Light also has orders from Australia and is expected to feature in the
CSAI-run Italian GT Championship. |
