The New Scudo is now even safer. Outstanding visibility, roominess and a driving position suited to customers of all sizes. Category-topping acoustic and climatic comfort. Altogether the model assures ideal conditions for driving and on-board wellbeing for the highest guarantee of preventive safety.

As far as active safety is concerned, the new Scudo is easy to drive and as manageable and safe as a car even when it is travels fully laden. This is due to the front wheel drive and suspension layout (independent MacPherson layout at the front, torsion beam at the back). The front brake system is also new: the system has been updated through the addition of ventilated discs (285 mm in diameter and 26 mm thick) and the callipers fitted to the New Ulysse. This allows a significant increase in performance in terms of efficacy, braking capacity and durability. For customers, this means shorter stopping distances, prompter braking and greater safety.

A 4-channel ABS with electronic brakeforce distributor (EBD) is available across the range.

The New Scudo offers other attractive features for extra safety: Combi versions come with benches to keep luggage out; vans are fitted with a partition between cabin and load compartment or a driver protection grid and sturdy retaining hooks for goods.

The New Scudo leads the field when it comes to passive safety too. The front part of the body is a programmed crumple zone. The passenger compartment is a highly rigid undeformable survival cell: the underfloor area has been reinforced with new structural elements. All the seats are fitted with head-restraints and 3-point seat-belts. The model already meets the forthcoming directive 96/36 that orders the fitting of a 3 point belt on all the central seats of vehicles in cat. M1 (i.e. Combis) The front seats are equipped with belts with pretensioners and load limiter (600 daN for the driver and 450 daN for passengers).

Lastly, a driver's airbag (standard on Combi versions), passenger airbag and sidebags are available as options. An FPS Fire Prevention System is fitted as standard across the range.
