21.11.2002  MASERATI QUATTROPORTE SEEN OUT ROAD TESTING AGAIN

Maserati Quattroporte

Further images of a disguised Maserati Quattroporte prototype undergoing road testing have emerged. The Quattroporte, due to be unveiled late next year, is Maserati's rival to the Mercedes S-class, BMW 7-series and new Jaguar XJ.

The flowing lines of the scale model first unveiled by Maserati at the "Artedinamica" exbibition in Tokyo earlier this year are clearly visible on this prototype. The swoops of the front and rear doors are easily traceable, but the front end is boxed off and gives few clues.

The 5.1-metre long four door luxury saloon project is led by Frank Stephenson, who styled the new BMW Mini, and is expected to have a luxury leather and wood-finished interior that has the space of a 7-series. To be powered by Maserati's new 4.2-litre V8 tweaked for this application, it will only be available with 'Cambiocorsa' electroically automated transmission.
