>>> 20.11.2002 Fiat official
scheme launch release
From today, members of the
Car City Club (the company delegated to manage the service) can use cars
available in special parking lots located throughout the urban area 24
hours a day. Vehicles can be booked by telephone and usage is recorded
in a personalised magnetic card.
Cars can be picked up and
dropped off in any of 11 parking spots: Corso Cairoli 32 (in front of Car
City Club headquarters); Piazza CLN corner with Via Gobetti; Via Porta
Palatina corner with Via Basilica; Via Guicciardini corner with Via Grandis;
Corso Duca degli Abruzzi corner with Via Magenta; Corso Sommeiller corner
with Corso Re Umberto; Corso Re Umberto corner with Via Magenta; Piazza
Solferino corner with Via Giannone; Corso Turati in front of No. 19; Corso
Einaudi corner with Corso Duca degli Abruzzi; Corso Galileo Ferraris corner
with Via Caboto.
Within one year the number
of parking spots - indicated by orange stripes and the Car City Club logo
- will increase to 18.
In this initial phase 16
cars are available to members, distributed over three models: Punto, Stilo
and Multipla. In the near future Lybra, Doblò and Ducato models
will be added.
The Car City Club card is
valid in all cities participating in the national ICS (Car Sharing Initiative)
scheme and vehicles will be free to transit in the Limited Traffic Zone
24 hours a day and may use lanes reserved for public transport. In addition,
Car City Club cars can park free of charge in parking spots delimited by
blue stripes throughout the city.
The costs for car sharing
vary according to type of car and journey. By way of example, there is
a fixed tariff for the use of a Fiat Punto in town between the hours of
8 a.m. and 9 p.m. of 2 euros, plus 39 cents for every kilometre. Instead
the fixed cost is only 50 cents when the car is used between 9 p.m. and
8 a.m. And the kilometre cost is less too, it drops to as low as 10 cents
depending on the length of the trip. Payment will be by direct debit to
the member's bank account at the end of each month.
Car City Club is the result
of the Turin Town Council's efforts in the field of sustainable mobility
and is the first company to be set up since signature in January 2000 of
letters of intent between the Ministry for the Environment and Italy's
major municipalities to launch a national car sharing scheme. The Company
is owned 51% by ATM (the Turin Mobility Agency that operates in both the
collective and individual mobility sectors), 33% by Savarent (a Fiat Auto
company operating in the vehicle rental and fleet management sectors),
and with the remaining 16% owned by Capi (a cooperative active in the transport
services management sector). |
