10.12.2002 MASERATI CONFIRM TALKS WITH AUDI AS TROFEO STARS AT BOLOGNA MOTOR SHOW
Maserati have confirmed
that they are in "exploratory talks" with Audi, following reports earlier
today in several Italian national newspapers. The talks, ongoing for several
weeks cover "commercial and technical" areas.
No other information has been released, but this statement would appear to cover a wide ranging brief. Audi, who form part of the German VW/Audi Group, own 100% of Italian supercar manufacturer, Lamborghini as well having purchased the failed reborn sportscar maker Bugatti. Other brands in the portfolio include budget car maker Skoda and the super-luxury, English-based Bently marque. Audi are world leaders in the four wheel drive field as well as aluminium spaceframe manufacturing techniques, while having one of the acknowledged best worldwide distribution and sales networks. Meanwhile the Maserati Trofeo GT-racer has impressed the public at the Bologna Motor Show which opened at the weekend. Two Trofeo's, in the hands of Ferrari F1 test driver, Brazilian Luciano Burti, and GT tester Andrea Bertolini, undertook demonstration runs on Sunday around the temporary race circuit in a program which included standing starts and simulated pitstops. |
