The "Italian Avantgarde
in Car Design" exhibition opened in New York last weekend. Running until
6th October, thirty two significant Italian cars have been brought together
in a specially designed display at the prestigious "69th Regiment Armoury"
in Manhattan.
The cars on display, built
since the early 20th century, ranging from a 1924 Isotta Fraschini 8A to
a brand new Ferrari 575M, are displayed along a historical critical itinerary
that associates them with the key periods in culture. The highly modern
exhibit, covering over 3,000 sq. meters, has been designed by architect
Massimo Vignelli.
The Exhibition, organized
by ANFIA ( Motor Vehicle Manufacturer Association of Italy ) and the Italian
Trade Commission, was conceived and developed by Automobilia, a company
promoting the history and image of the automobile. Some important workshops
will be conducted during the exposition, including a panel discussion on
the topic 'USA-Italy: a bridge between two concepts of car design', with
the participation of some of the leading Italian and American car designers,
who will discuss the interaction between the two technical-cultural worlds. |
