16.10.2003 THE LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO R-GT HEADS FOR MONZA TO MAKE ITS RACE DEBUT THIS WEEKEND

Lamborghini is continuing the development and testing programme for its Murciélago R-GT with the car’s participation in the last round of the FIA GT Championship at Monza.

The Murciélago R-GT was out on track at the A1-Ring circuit (Austria) this week, for its third test session since the car was launched at Frankfurt Motor Show in September ’03. Driver Rinaldo Capello was once again at the wheel, as he was for the car’s roll-out test in Vallelunga. Capello and Tom Kristensen will pilot the car at Monza.

Automobili Lamborghini’s Marketing Manager Manfred Fitzgerald, commented, “We are pleased by the potential the car has shown during testing. The R-GT was unveiled less than six weeks ago, and we have already realised significant progress. This race car is the result of an extensive development programme within an extremely short period, and we are looking forward to using the R-GT in race conditions for the first time. Being able to participate at Monza will provide the team with valuable feedback for the next stage of our performance development programme.”

The Murciélago R-GT is derived from the acclaimed Lamborghini Murciélago road car, and designed to meet international FIA GT and ACO regulations.  Lamborghini has developed the car jointly with renowned German race engineering company Reiter Engineering, and with the expertise of parent company Audi’s sports division Audi Sport. The R-GT will offer Lamborghini clients a highly competitive car with which to participate in global professional motorsport.
