28.04.2003  FIA GT CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2: WEITH RACING RACE REPORT

FIRST FIA GT CHAMPIONSHIP POINT FOR WEITH RACING AT MAGNY COURS

It is done, the Wieth Racing Ferrari won their first FIA GT Championship point. The enormous efforts of the last month begin to disburse.

As the car has not been tested under wet conditions yet the rainy qualifying was supposed to give Vittorio Zoboli, Wolfgang Kaufmann and Niko Wieth the oppurtunity to get to know better the Ferrari under these conditions. All recent test were made under dry conditions, so that we had to find first a good rain set up. Due to this circumstances we could only achieve the 25. position for the race, but with a little more wet practice a much better result should have been possible.

The weather changed on sunday so that the race could take place under dry conditions. Vittorio Zoboli started the race and finished his turn with place 12. After the scheduled pit stop we had to repair a defect on the car and lost some minutes in the pit. Wolfgang Kaufmann drove the second turn and unfortunately had to return to the box some rounds later. Moreminutes were lost. In the last turn Niko Wieth got in the car and finished the race in 19. position (complete) and in 8. position of the GT classment. This means one point for the championship.

Conclusion of the weekend:

The Ferrari is definitly better than three weeks ago in Barcelona. The lap times were constant on high level. The next race will be in two weeks in Enna/Pergusa (Italy), Until then we have to improve some details on the Ferrari and work again on the durability. After the enormous work of the last months the team is very happy to have won a championship point.
