12.06.2003 80TH LE MANS 24 HOURS: A STEADY START FOR LUC ALPHAND ADVENTURES AT LE MANS
The blue and white Ferrari
550 Maranello of Luc Alphand Aventures has achieved a steady start to its
Le Mans campaign after the first four hours of practice yesterday.
All three drivers, Luc Alphand, Frédéric Dor and Jérôme Policand, had the opportunity to drive and qualify for the minimum of three night laps, as well as work on the set up of the car and assess a new brand of brakes. By the end of the evening the Solution F run car was in 4th place in the GTS category, just behind another Care Racing owned Ferrari 550 and in front of one of the Corvettes, with Jerome Policand having set a fastest time of 3:56.834. The Luc Alphand Aventures/Solution F team had chosen to try a new braking system from Carbone Industrie and were also using power steering for the first time. Additionally, the team was keen for Frederic Dor, making his debut at les 24 Heures, to profit from as much time behind the wheel as possible in order to familiarise himself fully with the car and the circuit. After the end of the practice/qualifying sessions, the drivers commented: Luc Alphand: “I did a time of 4:03.10 in only 3 laps of running. It’s not enough time to find the limits of the car but our objective was to ensure I qualified and did my night laps. The new brakes had a much better “bite” and I felt we had a better feeling for the braking limits. The car is really very well balanced – it’s fantastic.” Frédéric Dor: “I am feeling a bit happier now I have had more time in the car and I thank the other two drivers for giving me the opportunity. It was a bit more difficult at night as we had a small problem with one of the headlights and I found it difficult to judge the distances but that is easily solved for tomorrow.” Jérôme Policand: “On my timed lap I came across three cars which meant I had to back off. Nevertheless, I did a 3:56.834 which I’m quite happy with. The car is well balanced and we have a good opportunity for further development with the new brakes.” |
