23.09.2003 FERRARI DRIVERS BATTLE IT OUT FOR THE FIA GT TITLE AMONGST THEMSELVES |
||||
After being awarded the win on Sunday in Oschersleben, the BMS Scuderia Ferrari pairing of Matteo Bobbi and Thomas Biagi have extended their lead at the top of the table to 11 points. Six wins and two retirements give them 60 points. Two races still remain, Estoril and Monza, with a maximum of 20 points left on offer. Bobbi and Biagi can only be caught by either the BMS run Care Racing Ferrari of Enzo Calderai and Lillian Bryner, on 49 points, or with an outside chance, by the sister car of Fabrizio Gollin and Luca Cappellari who have amassed 43 points. Either way the title will go to a Ferrari driver, Lister's Andrea Piccini being the highest placed non-Ferrari pilot in the standings 23 points adrift. In the GT team race, provided that the Lister exclusion is not overturned at the FIA Court of Appeal, BMS Scuderia Italia are now crowned champions. If Lister are successful their chances are virtually matematical and the Italian team should be able to clinch the title in Estoril. In N-GT Jamie Davies' second place for Team Maranello Concessionaires at Oschersleben closes the gap to the recently dominant Posche of Stephane Ortelli and Marc Lieb to 12.5 points. After his victory at the weekend, JMB Racing's Fabrizio de Simone is a further 2.5 points adrift. After their second and third place finish TMC have narrowed the gap to Freisinger Motorsport to 17 points, the British Ferrari team still in with an outside chance. |
