30.09.2003 MASERATI TO OFFER UPGRADE KITS TO ALLOW TROFEO GT TO COMPETE IN NEXT YEAR'S FIA GT SERIES

Maserati are preparing to offer an update kit for the Coupe Cambiocorsa-based Trofeo GT to allow the racer to be used in sportscar racing worldwide next year.

To be dubbed the Trofeo N-GT, the kit will allow existing owners the opportunity to upgrade their car for use in the N-GT class of the FIA GT Championship and the American Le Mans Series' GT class. Maserati originally built the original Trofeo GT, used this year in an eight race single model series around Europe, to FIA N-GT specification and the kits will assist mainly in the area of increased power, enchanced aerodynamics and further weight reduction.

Maserati have been prompted in this direction by potential customer interest and are confident that kits will offer a substantially cheaper alternative to the more expensive Ferrari 360 Modena and Porsche's new 993 variant which will become available for next year. Interest has particularly come from Britain, Australian and Italy, while in the US enquiries have come from both ALMS and GrandAm teams.

They have also been impressed by results of Trofeo's being campaigned in sportscar racing in Australia, the racer winning its class against stiff opposition on its debut at the Australian Nations Cup earlier this year. The Trofeo will also be represented at the legendary Bathurst race in November.
