02.10.2003 CARSPORTS PAGANI ZONDA SPORTSCAR HEADING FOR LE MANS NEXT MONTH

The Carsports America team are looking to enter their Zonda GR in the Le Mans 1000km race next month. After uncompetitive showings at the Sebring 12 Hours and Le Mans 24 Hours, both races resulting in early withdrawals for the underdeveloped car, the Carsports America team ditched their planned ALMS programme in order to concentrate on testing and improving the Zonda, with a purpose-developed AMG-built Mercedes-Benz race engine now being available.

The ever growing FIA GT series has now become a priority and the Le Mans race is expected to be used as a springboard for an FIA GT series assault next year. 2004 will see SRO, organisers of the sportscar series, permitting the use of carbon-fibre chassis', so allowing Pagani to join the fray. Mike Hezemans and Anthony Kumpen will drive the Zonda GR in France next month.
