In
a last minute move, Mattias Andersson signed to drive a Scuderia Bigazzi
Alfa Romeo 156GTA in the FIA European Touring Car Championship meeting
that will take place this weekend in Anderstorp. Andersson will join the
team’s regular driver Alessandro Balzan at the wheel of the car that was
driven by Frenchman Eric Cayrolle until the previous round in Spa.
30-year
old from Linköping, Andersson is the fifth Swedish driver taking part
in the FIA ETCC meeting in Anderstorp, alongside Rickard Rydell (ART Engineering
Volvo S60), Tomas Engström (PRO Motorsport Honda Civic Type-R) and
the duo Johan Stureson-Niklas Karlsson (Podium SEAT Sport Sweden SEAT Toledo
Cupra). After he obtained excellent results in his single seater years,
Andersson switched to covered wheels in 1999.
He
finally joined the Swedish Touring Car Championship in 2001, racing in
a former BTCC Vauxhall Vectra to be classified 7th in the Drivers championship.
Works driver for Opel Sweden in 2002, he finished the championship in 9th
position. During the current season he’s driving a BMW 320i from last year’s
ETCC, for the BMW Dealer Team. His best result so far was a 2nd place in
Falkenberg.
