18.06.2002:
MASERATI
BACK ON TRACK THIS WEEK
Today was the second consecutive day of testing this week for the Maserati Cambiocorsa Trofeo. Once again, Brazilian Luciano Burti was driving today. The Scuderia Ferrari F1 test driver continued with development work on the car, covering 65 trouble-free laps. His fastest time today was 1:25.093.
During the afternoon, Ferrari-Maserati President, Luca di Montezemolo came to the track and discussed the project's progress with Burti and the team of Maserati engineers. The Monezemolo made the most of his visit by undertaking several laps behind the wheel.
“I am very happy to have been able to try the Maserati Cambiocorsa Trofeo. The car has excellent brakes, good road holding and is easy to drive,” said Burti at the close of the test session. “The outcome of the past two days of testing has been very positive. Of course, there is still a lot of work to do, which is what one would expect at this stage, but the Maserati engineers know exactly what they need to do.”
Development testing of the
Maserati Cambiocorsa Trofeo will resume next week, when Ferrari's other
test driver, Luca Badoer will also get behind the wheel.
Maserati has announced that the first full test session for the new Maserati Trofeo car will be carried out on Thursday, the 20th of June, at the Fiorano track by the Ferrari Formula 1 Team's official test driver, Brazilian Luciano Burti.
The car, which is intended for a new one-make racing series, is a development of the new Coupé Cambiocorsa and incorporates a series of modifications for the track, including specific spring and damper ratings, racing seat and harness, full safety roll cage, larger wheels and wider tyres and a specially modified engine management system.
With this test, Maserati
will be commencing a programme that will see the famous sporting marque
return to the race tracks.
