( Germany )
Lee Cunningham and Rory Pasey raced to victory in the opening Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy race. Cunningham left Pasey with a 13 second lead at the handover which was whittled down to 2.1 seconds by the finish. The Reiter Engineering pair had taken the lead when pole winner and early race leader, Jean-Marc Gounon pitted to retire at mid-distance with a broken wishbone on the bright yellow, Corona-backed Diablo. Sunday's race saw Gounon and Sevin make amends, passing long time race leader David Halliday five laps from the finish. Halliday had started from pole, steadily pulling away from Rory Pasey, until Pasey had a wheelbearing failure on the Reiter Engineering car and pulled into the pits to retire. |

19-21.04.2002 Magny
Cours ( France )
The opening round of the Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy for gentlemen and professional driver pairings saw Italian pairing Vittorio Zoboli and Vincenzo Tirella in their MIG Power Lamborghini Diablo take an early championship lead after notching up a win and a second place at a hot an sunny Magny-Cours circuit. Pole for saturday's race went to legendary French skier Luc Alphand, who was paired in the Lamborghini VIP car with ex-Ferrari Formula 1 driver Patrick Tambay. However a broken driveshaft on the warm-up lap saw the pair eliminated before the race had started. Once the race settled after a frantic few opening laps Zoboli led Gounon, but with the Italian unable to keep the rapid Frenchman at bay, positions were reversed by the flag, Gounon winning by 2.3 secondsl with the Frei/Velay Autovitesse Diablo in third a further half a minute back. Sunday's race 2 saw Gounon on pole with Zoboli joining him on the front row ahead of Velay and Tambay. Tambay made a good start to climb into third, Velay retiring soon after with broken suspension. Tambay them pulled up with transmission failure and Sevin, having taken over from Gounon, saw his front wishbone break, leaving Tirella to stroll to the line unchallenged. Lorent and Dewinter in the Autovitesse car came home 45 seconds adrift in second place, while De Saedeler and Casadi in the Riverside Diablo took the final podium slot, a lap down. |
