The Maserati 320S, an open
topped single seater race car based on the road-going 3200GT coupe, was
unveiled by Maserati at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.
Using a shortened wheelbase and the same 3.2-litre supercharged engine, it features considerably lighter single seater bodywork and all round improvements including revised and upgraded brakes and suspension. It is believed that the Maserati 320S may be produced in limited numbers to form the basis of a single make racing series to coincide with Maserati's US relaunch. At present however it signals the start of a road back to motorsport involvement for the famous Italian marque, parent company Ferrari determined that Maserati should build on its sporting legacy as they turn the fortunes of company around. |
