A compact collection from Ferrari at
the Motor Show Live in Birmingham, is however packed with importance, as the all
new four seat 612 Scaglietti and the race-inspired GTC handling pack for the
575M are both making their British debuts.
These two front
engined V12-powered sportscars are joined by another race-bred monster, the
Challenge Stradale.
This 300km/h 425bhp V8 rocket was first presented to the world at Geneva last
year, and this model, the show car here resplendent in Nuovo Nero Daytona,
represents the ultimate 360 derivative.
Longer, wider and
taller than the 456M it replaces, the 612 Scaglietti offers ease-of-entry for
rear-seat passengers to an outstandingly luxurious cabin that will accommodate
four adults in absolute comfort. Powered by Ferrari's most advanced V-12 engine,
the 612 Scaglietti, shown at the NEC in Blu Mirabeau has a top speed of 199 mph
and for the first time on a Ferrari, computerised electronic stability and
traction control (CST).
Demand for the
exciting new model in the UK, one of the marque's strategically most important
and well established markets, was instantaneous. With first deliveries to
customers commencing in July, this year's UK right hand drive allocation of 60
cars has already been quickly sold, and orders are now being taken for
deliveries running well into the course of next year.
The eye-catching
car on display has certainly been grabbing attention in Birmingham. Its
sensuous, sweeping Pininfarina-styled lines, coupled to its rich interior, which
combines elegance with a sporting and simplistic nature, make Ferrari's UK
importer confident that they have yet another winner on their hands.
The 575M Maranello on show is fitted
with the new optional GTC Handling pack, which is derived from recent FIA GT
Championship involvement. The track-developed components, that allow for an even
more thrilling driving experience, are being presented in the UK for the first
time. The 575M here is finished in Rosso Corsa, and features a Crema and
Bordeaux interior.
For the first time on a front-engined Ferrari, this model has Brembo
carbon-ceramic brake discs and a further evolution of the Fiorano handling
package, special springs and anti-roll bars, lowered ride height, upgraded power
steering and enhanced electronic suspension control. It also features a sports
exhaust system, newly designed exhaust pipes, and modular 19" wheels fitted with
special Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, 255/35 ZR19 front and 305/30 ZR 19 rear.
The GTC handling pack is expected by the UK importer, Maranello Concessionaires,
to arrive in Britain later this year and demand is expected to be brisk 575M

The three road Ferraris on display
are joined on the stand by Michael Schumacher's title-winning F1 car. Despite
the best efforts of numerous potential rivals, the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro
team continues to set the pace and demonstrate the reliability that others can
only aspire to. Ferrari has won the F1 Constructors' world title for a record
five years in a row while Schumacher's 2003 drivers' crown was his fourth in
succession with the Prancing Horse. |
