The countdown to
the official debut of the 'Grande Punto' - a model which is
set give new, crucial momentum to Fiat Auto's recovery
plans - is underway in earnest. The new model's
international debut will take place from 6th to 9th
September at the Palavela indoor stadium in Turin ( a
facility built in 1961, and recently refurbished for the
2006 XX Torino Winter Games).
The official presentation, on 6th September, will be
attended by around 800 journalists from all over Europe,
following a reception which will be held the previous
evening. Highly innovative 3D technology has been chosen for
the Grande Punto's debut: the largest projection system ever
built will feed onto a 128 sq. metre screen. The
cutting-edge technology employs a "3 eyeliner video
projection", which exploits a mathematical calculation to
project 3D shapes through a foil film, less than 0.1mm in
thickness, and onto a 2D surface. All this apparently will
give the illusion of a 3D image without the viewer having to
wear special 3-D lens. This sophisticated system will then
interact with a spectacular artistic exhibition.
SERGIO MARCHIONNE - "Q2 MARKET REACTIONS WERE EXCESSIVE"
"The second quarter results, when Fiat hit rock bottom, were
excessive, then analysts started to see estimates in
relation to the group and obviously stocks were influenced,"
said Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne in reply to
journalists who questioned him over Fiat's recent startling
developments on the stockmarkets in recent weeks.
Fiat "is a company that believes in its future" was the
positive comment made by Italian Minister Claudio Scajola
after a meeting today with the top management of the Fiat
Group, based in Turin.

"I had a working
breakfast today with Vice-President Elkann and managing
director Marchionne, I've seen their projects, their models
and their perspectives," continued Minister Scajola, before
adding, "I believe we can be rather optimistic, since there
is a strong participation for a great revival of Fiat".
"We are certainly satisfied with this," concluded Scajola,
"and we will make sure that such revival will take place,
since Fiat is the biggest company in Italy and it strongly
contributes to the success of our Country."
