The new Fiat
Grande Punto has just been awarded a Euro NCAP 5-star rating
for adult protection, the highest number attainable.
Scheduled to be
officially launched in a glizty event at the Palavela in
Turin tomorrow, the brand-new Grande Punto - which is set to
spearhead Fiat's revival - has now passed the vitally
important Euro NCAP crash protection ratings with flying
colours.
Euro NCAP
provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent
assessment of the safety performance of some of the most
popular cars sold in Europe.
Established in
1997, and now backed by five European Governments, the
European Commission and motoring and consumer organisations
in every EU country, Euro NCAP has rapidly become a catalyst
for encouraging significant safety improvements to new car
design.
In the key adult
occupancy protection test (in the popular "supermini"
category) the Grande Punto was awarded the 5-star rating
(out of a maximum of 5-tars available) after scoring 14
points (85 percent) in the frontal impact crash test, and 18
points (98 percent) for side impact. It was also awarded a
strong 3-stars for child occupancy protection, after scoring
35 points (72 percent), and finally a category-topping
3-stars for pedestrian protection with 19 points garnered
(53 percent). Only the Suzuki Swift and Honda Jazz have
equalled the Grande Punto's pedestrian rating, out of the 53
supermini category cars that have been tested by Euro NCAP. |
