The new Fiat
Grande Punto has won the “2005 Golden Steering Wheel”,
Germany’s most prestigious prize, which is awarded by a jury
of car experts, celebrities from the entertainment world and
racing drivers.
Organised by the weekly magazine Bild am Sonntag, the
prize is now in its thirtieth year, and every year it awards
a model in each of four different categories. The Grande
Punto (which amassed 1058 points) won the trophy for the
Compact category, ahead of the Renault Clio (1053pts), and
the Toyota Yaris (1048pts), while the Volkswagen Fox and
Peugeot 1007 also figured in the running. Other award
winners included the VW Passat, Porsche Carrera GT and Audi
Q7.

The “Golden Steering Wheel” prize-giving ceremony was held
last night, in the beautiful city of Berlin, with over 450
guests from the worlds of German industry, trade, culture,
politics and sport. Werner H. Fry, Managing Director Fiat
Auto AG, collected the trophy and commented: “Winning the
‘Golden Steering Wheel’ fills us with pride and confidence,
and opens an important new chapter in the history of the
success of the Grande Punto and the Fiat brand.”
