Just a few days after its commercial launch on the Argentinean market and only three months after its press presentation in Latin America, the Fiat Idea has already won two prestigious awards. In Argentina, it took the ‘Mejor Auto Mercosur 2006’ award, while Brazil has awarded it the ‘Carro do Ano 2006’ trophy.

To be specific, the Fiat ‘Idea’ was voted ‘Car of the Year 2006’ by the Brazilian trade press, with the following citation: technological innovation, design, quality, ergonomics and comfort, safety, engines and transmissions/gearboxes, consumption levels, driveability, dynamic behaviour and, lastly, price and value for money. Organised by Auto Esporte magazine and now at its 39th edition, the Award is the most prestigious in the national car industry. This clearly emerges from the models that the new Fiat ‘Idea’ left in its wake: GM Vectra, Volkswagen Fox, Honda Fit and Ford Fiesta. Founded by the famous Auto Test Magazine, the ‘Mejor Auto Mercosur 2006’ Award is assigned by a jury of trade journalists. It was presented by Carlos Figueras, editor-in-chief of Auto Test, to the Chairman of Fiat Auto Argentina, Cristiano Rattazzi.

These two important international awards reward a model that since its launch in 2003 has won growing success among drivers and critics alike: so far, more than 114,000 vehicles have been built and sold in Europe. Original and innovative design overcomes current distinctions between different models and segments: the ‘Idea’ handles better than a mid-range saloon, is bigger and more flexible than a city car and more compact than an MPV. In addition, the Fiat ‘Idea’ was recently face-lifted, confirming its status as a car embracing technological progress at the service of drivers. The Fiat ‘Idea’ also boasts an impressive range of engines - all environment-friendly (Euro 4) yet ensuring superb performance and low consumption (among the best in its category) – as well as comfort and safety at the top of its segment.
