Autodelta
presented their new GT Super Evo in public for the first
time at the MPH05 Motor Show last weekend, the supercharged 341bhp sports
coupé lining up alongside the Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7 Super on their
stand.
The MPH05 Motor Show took place over the weekend at the
Earls Court Exhibition Centre, in Central London. With the
venue being located just a stone's throw from Autodelta's
London headquarters, it was an ideal event at which to
showcase the new Autodelta GT Super Evo. In fact at the
MPH03 Motor Show back in December 2003 Autodelta presented
their first bespoke model the Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7. This
potent 328bhp 'rocket' was dubbed the "world's fastest hot
hatch, ever" by Jeremy Clarkson when it appeared on the BBC
Top Gear television programme, trashing the lap record of
established benchmark cars such as the BMW M3. Last year Autodelta chose
MPH04 to roll out the new Autodelta GT Super and the Autodelta
156 GTA AM 3.7 for the first time. In the last two years
building hand crafted 'bespoke' Alfa Romeos, taken to the
performance and dynamic edge have become a major part of
Autodelta's business.
This year Autodelta chose to showcase their new GT Super Evo
model at MPH05. The first GT Super - with its supercharged
320bhp Alfa Romeo V6 engine was created by Autodelta's engineering team to be a
high-performance, luxurious 'Grand Tourer' in true Alfa
Romeo tradition. However a number of Autodelta's customers
demanded a more 'extreme' version, taking the concept to the performance edge.
The new Autodelta GT Super Evo thus offers increased levels of torque (287 lb/ft at
4800 rpm) and more power (341bhp at 6,450rpm) through the
incorporation of a larger intercooler and higher-flow
injectors, boost which is now raised from 0.35 to 0.5 bar,
and engine re-mapping. The car's 0-60 mph time is shaved
down to 5.2
seconds, while the main change apparent to the driver is in
the substantial improvement in both the mid- and high-range
acceleration.

"The GT Super Evo came about as a direct response to
customer pressure," commented Autodelta's enthusiastic boss
Jano Djelalian during the show, "it pushes the GT Super's
performance envelope further forward and builds on our
knowledge and application of supercharging, an engineering
principle that we believe is in the best of Alfa Romeo
traditions."
Alongside the GT Super Evo
on the stand at MPH05 was the Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7
Super. This car was first seen in public during the Autodelta
'European Tour 2005', which took place back in early April.
Autodelta decided last winter that with an all-new Alfa Romeo V6
engine due to arrive in the new Alfa 159 and Brera, they would
pay a final - and ultimate - tribute to the outgoing Alfa
V6, a powerplant that has firmly embedded itself in the
automotive history books. Taking an Autodelta 147 GTA AM with
its bored-out engine (now with 3.7-litres), their
well-developed Rotrex supercharger-based system was added
on, boosting power to a quite stunning 400bhp, with a
resulting a massive
increase in torque, all useably pumped through the front
wheels of the Alfa 147 GTA based model. MPH05 was the first
high-profile public show appearance for this new version.
The MPH05 show itself featured a wide array of high performance
and luxury cars. Brand new sportscars on show included the Gumbert
Apollo, while Italian sporting muscle came in the shape of the Lamborghini Gallardo and Murcielago, the
Pagani Zonda F, and the Ferrari F430. Alfa Romeo's
production future was also
on show - the new Alfa 159, in 2.4 JTDM turbodiesel format - being
presented by Alfa Romeo UK. "We have had a lot of interest
in the cars and positive feedback here, the MPH audience is
always very receptive to what our brand sets out to achieve,
adds Jano, "and we hope that the Autodelta name can now go
forward into 2006, when we will realise very ambitious plans
now underway for the new Alfa 159 and Brera."
