The Castle Combe
race circuit in the UK has taken delivery of a new rapid
response emergency vehicle supplied by local
Iveco-distributor Bristol Street Commercials. The Iveco
Daily 35S12 is finished in high visibility graphics and is
being fitted out with all of the features typically found on
board an ambulance, in readiness to take over as the
circuit’s primary front-line response vehicle in the autumn.
It will also carry specialist rescue and extrication
equipment required for use at motorsport venues.
Built on Daily’s longest 3,950 mm wheelbase, the vehicle
will be present at all race meetings and will line-up behind
the competitors on the grid. At the start of the race it
will follow the cars or bikes to the first corner, before
taking up position at the end of the main straight, ready to
respond to emergencies anywhere around the track. Rodney
Gooch, Sales and Marketing Director, Castle Combe Circuit,
explains: “We selected the Daily as it represents the
perfect vehicle for this rather unique role, with plenty of
space for our medical and rescue equipment and good
performance to ensure it arrives at the scene of an
emergency promptly.”
In addition to its responsibilities at the track, the Daily
is officially classified as an ambulance and will be
available to support other motorsport activities in the
area. “Formula One teams often carry out straight line speed
testing on a local runway and regulations stipulate they
require a rapid response vehicle to be on-site, and we are
often asked to provide the vehicle,” adds Mr Gooch. The
Daily will be crewed by a volunteer medical team and due to
the nature of its operation, is expected to cover less than
10,000 miles a year. |
