The
aim of Chery Lei was to express a strong idea of
innovation and a break with more classical styling cues
thanks to a new way of interpreting complex surfaces
together with clean-cut lines that give it a unique personality. |

The side glass surface
of Chery Lei links up to the windscreen and rear
window; optically the uprights seem to join to the lower
body without touching it, creating a new floating dome
effect that highlights the volume giving it a new sporting dynamism. |

The new firm is
focused on the following activities: styling development,
CAS 3D modelling up to Class A surfacing, full size models
constructions, feasibility engineering, master models
construction, engineering development, prototypes and show
cars construction. The aim
is to re-launch the Turinese network related to the
automotive sector, combining creativity and
cost-effectiveness.
Roberto Piatti was born on July 29th, 1961 in
Turin, Italy. While studying at University Mechanical
Engineering, he worked as a contributing editor for Auto &
Design magazine, wrote automotive books and was
involved in design projects. After completing his degree at the Polytechnic Institute of
Turin Piatti started his working career at the I.DE.A
Institute, initially as a Project Leader and afterwards as
Director of Automotive Projects, where he gained experience
in the automobile development in emerging countries, such as
China, India and South America.
He later joined the Bertone Group, and was appointed
Managing Director in March 1998, serving in this role until
February 2006. While at Bertone, he developed the company's
operational structure and expanded its services. He also inspired advanced automotive projects
such as the Filo (2001) and the Novanta (2002), with
drive-by-wire technology, and the innovative architectonic
concept expressed in the Villa (2005). At the same time Piatti carried on his great interest for
sailing and transferred experience gained in Automotive
Design towards nautical and aeronautical sectors developing
projects of interior design for Scandinavian Airlines and
new Etap 46 and 28 feet. In March 2006 he set up Torino
Design as CEO
and Managing Director, creating a new Design Centre (with a head
office in Turin and registered office in Shanghai) with a
talent pool of experienced and skilled professional
designers, engineers and model developers for both
Automotive and Industrial design.
