Fiat will have car stars past and present, delivering sex
appeal and the highest level of fuel economy in Australia
displayed on its stand at the up and coming Australian
International Motor, which flings open its doors to the
public on 26 November 2006. Centrepieces of is display will
be the classic Fiat 500 and the all-new Fiat Punto, which
delivers the ultimate in fuel economy, but which is the sex
appeal leader may not be immediately obvious….
Not that the Punto, with its Maserati-like styling is short
on sex appeal, but despite towering over the diminutive Fiat
500, the Punto’s the fuel economy winner, with an official
government fuel figure of just 4.5 litres per 100 km or a
whopping 62 mpg in the old money. This makes the Fiat Punto
1.3 JTD DuaLogic, which makes its debut at the Australian
International Motor Show the most fuel efficient
conventional car available in Australia.
It has
a long list of standard equipment that was a distant dream
when the Fiat 500 dominated the small car market in same way
as the Punto does today, such as AirCon, cruise control,
power front windows, power door locks, remote opening boot,
six air bags, ABS brakes, advanced twin-mode steering and a
gearbox so efficient and effective that saves fuel and does
the gearchanging.

The Fiat Punto 1.3 JTD DuaLogic is thus no stripped economy
car. Its AUS$24,490 recommended retail price also means it
is tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than other fuel
economy rivals.
So where does that leave the cherubic and loveable Fiat 500?
As the sex appeal leader, of course! In a global survey
carried out by the UK’s leading motoring magazine, Top Gear,
the Fiat 500 beat all-comers to be voted the sexist car in
the world, with its cute looks beating much fancied sports
cars, lavish luxo-barges and techno tour de forces. “The
success of the Fiat 500 in the sex appeal stakes and the
Fiat Punto in the fuel economy race proves one thing,” says
David Stone, General Manager for Fiat cars in Australia.
“When it comes to small cars, Fiat is the world leader!”
