The Ferrari
60 Relay has made its way through Germany, highlights of
the hectic multi-day programme including seeing the
cavalcade of sportscars taking to the historic Nürburgring
race circuit and the owners' visiting the Michael Schumacher
kart track in Kerpen.
The German
itinerary of the Ferrari 60 Relay got underway last
Monday, the Tour and the celebrations for the 60th
anniversary of Ferrari receiving a hearty welcome in the
city of Wiesbaden, one of the oldest Spa towns in Europe and
capital of the federal state Hesse. Under wet weather
conditions and frequent rains the Ferrari owners left in the
direction of the famous and legendary Nürburgring race
track; the ride to the German circuit was held like a rally
on the streets through the countryside with an enthusiastic
arrival at the old part of the circuit. The new and
historical cars, which participated in this stage, drove a
lap on the 22,835 metre long track, with its distinctive
fast ups and downs, which provided great fun to all the
participants; besides Ferrari holds the record of the most
victories on this legendary race track.
After passing also the new part of the circuit, which has
been built in the year 1984 and modified in 2002, the staff
and the participating Ferrari owners arrived in the city of
Bad Neuenahr, where they all stopped for dinner. On the
morning of 8th May the Tour left in the direction of Kerpen,
where Michael Schumacher's "kartodromo" is situated.

For two hours the owners had the possibility to race the
venue's go-karts against each other on the track. After a
lunch, served with specialities from Emilia-Romagna, the
participants arrived at the villa of racing driver Wolfgang
von Trips, who prematurely passed away in a tragic accident
in the Parabolica corner in Monza in the year 1961.
Thus the first leg of the German stage ended, and the
section of the Relay leading through Germany was set to be
concluded when the cavalcade arrived in Berlin the next day.
From Germany the ceremonial 60th anniversary 'baton' will
head into Switzerland for two days (12th-13th May) before
immediately crossing the border into neighbouring Austria
for another two day schedule (14th-15th May). The Tour will
wrap up its Europe-wide programme in the Czech Republic
(16th May), Hungary (17th-18th May), Slovenia (19th-20th
May) and Turkey (25th May). Then there will be a brief visit
to North Africa and the Lebanon before the tour begins a
final journey winding around Italy, with the whole
extravaganza set to culminate in Maranello on 25th June.
