After almost
five months crossing five continents the Ferrari 60 Relay
will make its last stop today when the 60th anniversary
celebration tour arrives in Maranello, the home of the
'Prancing Horse' brand.
The Ferrari
60 Relay kicked off on January 28th in Abu Dhabi, site
of the future Ferrari theme park, and has traversed about 50
countries in 148 days. The central theme of the final event
in Maranello this weekend will be technological innovation
pioneered by Ferrari in the 60 years of its existence. For
the occasion, Ferrari has assembled its 60 most important
innovations, ranging from aluminium pliers for disc brakes
to the electric differential and the F1 gearbox. Against
this backdrop Ferrari will organise its first concours
d'élégance: a series of events on the track, at the factory
and at the Galleria Ferrari in Maranello celebrating the
elegance of the Ferrari. An Opera Omnia book will be
published on the company's history, a collection of pictures
and data on all the road cars and race cars built by
Ferrari.
Meanwhile the
Ferrari 60 Relay 'baton' has been travelling through
Italy during its final week on the road. After the
celebrations in the Italian capital and the presentation of
the gifts from all the stages around the world at the
weekend (to be auctioned over the upcoming weekend in Maranello),
the cars of the Ferrari 60 Relay on Monday left in
the direction of Lugo di Romagna.
The Tour arrived on the Piazza della Rocca at around 17:00h,
where the participants visited the Francesco Baracca Museum.
Baracca was the man from whom Enzo Ferrari received the symbol
of the Prancing Horse. Lugo di Romagna, a village in the
Emilia-Romagna region, has a long tradition as far as
Ferrari is concerned: it is not only the birthplace of the
aviator Baracca, but also the place of one of the most
important Scuderia Ferrari Clubs, with Giovanni Baracca,
descendant of Francesco, counted amongst its members. The
Club arranges the "Festa del Cavallino Rampante", which is
held every year at the end of April.

On one of its final stages around the world the baton
arrived in the lagoon at Venice: On Tuesday at 15:30h Ferraristi drove down the Lido, led by a 125 Sport, and at
17:00h the participants met the dean of Ca' Foscari
University at the Sala Scarpa. After a ride through the
narrow alleys the cars stopped at the Ferrari Store (Mercerie
San Marco 782) and visited the Damiani boutique (San Marco
1494, Salizada San Moisé). At 19:30h the cars turned from
Piazza San Marco back to the Lido, where at the Nicelli
airfield a cocktail party was waiting for the participants.
The conclusive
moments of the journey took lace yesterday as the 'baton'
eventually reached the Alps. The cars from Ferrari and the
participating clients met on Piazza del Municipio in Bolzano
at 12:00h. From there the Tour left in the direction of
Andalo, Fai della Paganella, Lake Molveno, eventually
arriving in Riva del Garda. From here the cars travelled
southbound along the lake, stopping at Brenzone Castle and
arriving on Verona's Piazza Brà at around 19:00h.
Today sees the
final stage for the Ferrari 60 Relay, and it will arrive
at its historical birthplace. This morning the cars and
clients of Ferrari will meet at San Luca, in Bologna, at
10:30h, and leave in the direction of Modena, driving along
via Bazzanese and passing Vignola and Spilamberto (where the
group will stop); from here the cars take via Vignolese,
eventually arriving in Modena: the cars from Ferrari will
then drive through the streets of the city centre at around
16:00h and arrive at the Carrozzeria Scaglietti at 16:30h.
