29.09.2002 MASERATI TROFEO RUNS OUT AT INDIANAPOLIS
While Maserati are unveiling
the Trofeo at the Paris International Motor Show and announcing details
of the race series for these Coupe-based race prepared cars, that signifies
the marques long awaited return to the motorsport arena, a Trofeo car was
run out at Indianapolis ahead of today's US Grand Prix.
To raise the profile of both the Trofeo series and Maserati's return to the USA, a Trofeo car was joined by a road going Spyder and the 8CTF which Wilbur Shaw drove to victory in the 1939 and 1940 Indianapolis 500. F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher drove both the Trofeo car and the 8CTF around "The Brickyard" on Friday before the Formula 1 cars took to the track to practice for today's US Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher: “Driving the Maseratis was really good fun! The 8CTF handled very well. I must admit I was surprised at what good shape it's in. I had already driven the Trofeo at the Nurburgring and so I knew what to expect of it. It is a great car to say the least and on top of that the engine note is beautiful!” Meanwhile Ferrari F1 test driver Luca Badoer undertook several laps in the road-going Spyder Cambiocorsa. Afterwards, Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, examined the Trofeo car, along with other Ferrari team members, and posed for official photos. |
