Lamborghini are in upbeat mood here at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Positioned in the VW/Audi hall to reflect their current ownership, they are joined by in the hall by the German carmaker's other brands Seat, Skoda, Bentley & Bugatti. With a reported strong initial order book for the new Ferrari 360 Modena-rivalling Gallardo, the Murcielago hitting sales targets, an SUV in the pipeline and rumours of a large Maserati Quattroporte-style luxury saloon, Lamborghini are looking towards a bright future for the first time in many years. The new Lamborghini R-GT, unveiled here on Tuesday, dominates the stand. The prototype being shown here is fitted with a huge rear wing and undertray, its aggressive look enhanced by a larger front spoiler and wider side skirts. The dark grey 'carbon-fibre' effect paint scheme along with the stands understated lighting set-up and the Mucielargo's built-in 'stealth bomber' appearance complete the look of a purposeful race car. The R-GT is joined on the Lamborghini stand by a black road going 6.0-litre V12 Murcielago, which is fitted with the new e-gear, a robotised gearbox with electronically controlled sequential shifting, two of the new 5.0-litre V10 Gallardo's one in yellow and one in grey, while the stand is completed by a static mounted 5.0-litre V10 Gallardo engine. by Edd Ellison in Frankfurt |
