Veloqx Motorsport are considering running either a Prodrive built Ferrari 550, or a factory 575M if the planned project goes ahead, at Le Mans next year in a program which would also take in the Sebring 12 Hours. Team owner, Hong Kong businessman Sam Li, believes that the 360 Modena, which the team will campaign in the FIA N-GT series next year "is not ready to undertake a 24 hour race competitively yet".

Meanwhile JAS Engineering offshoot, DART Racing, have expressed a desire to run the 575M FIA GT contender that Ferari are currently considering building, if the project goes ahead. This year DART ran their own developed 550 in the closing races to the FIA GT series, and hope to retain veteran Dieter Quester, who brings substantial backing from Red Bull, for next season.

Meanwhile the Maserati Trofeo GT-racer has impressed the public at the Bologna Motor Show which opened at the weekend. Two Trofeo's, in the hands of Ferrari F1 test driver, Brazilian Luciano Burti, and GT tester Andrea Bertolini, undertook demonstration runs on Sunday around the temporary race circuit in a program which included standing starts and simulated pitstops.

Click here for full detailsSaturday morning at the Bologna Motor Show saw the Ferrari Challenge provide some exciting racing, with the Shell Cup cars on track. Eight of the top contenders from the 2002 series raced two at a time in a non-stop programme, which also included practice and qualifying sessions, leading to races, semi-finals and finals. Sunday inside the arena, packed full of spectators, then saw the Ferrari Challenge-Pirelli Trophy 360 Modenas competing with victory in the final going to 26-year-old Nicola Gianniberti  who comfortably beat Stefano Livio.

Vodafone are to sponsor the Maserati Trofeo series next year. Click here to more details and to enlarge this imageMaserati have announced that Vodafone, the giant worldwide mobile phone operator, will sponsor next years seven round Maserati Trofeo series. Vodafone are extending their involvement with the Ferrari-Maserati Group which already sees them as co-sponsors of the Ferrari Grand Prix team.

The race prepared Coupe will form the basis of single marque series to be run during 2003. Two races will run at the British and Italian Grands Prix, four will be run in conjunction with the FIA GT Championship when two drivers will race, while the last event will be held at Ferrari's traditional end of season "Finali Ferrari" race days. To ensure equality all the cars will be prepared by Maserati.
